Fashion retailer Zara’s latest design – a lungi-style skirt – has set Twitter abuzz. On its online store, Zara described the ‘check mini skirt’ as a “flowing skirt with draped detail in the front…” Hate to break it to you Zara, but that’s a lungi. And you’re charging $89.9 (Rs 5,728) for a lungi.
We love Zara. Because who doesn’t? It already has the stamp of approval from the likes of Anushka Sharma. The actor joined the Zara brigade as she indulged in retail therapy during her Cape Town holiday with husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, wearing a pastle-hued dress from the high street favourite.
The popular fashion retailer from Spain caters to everyone with its trendy clothes, but its latest design, a lungi-style skirt, is a bit much. On it’s online store, Zara described the ‘check mini skirt’ as a “Flowing skirt with draped detail in the front. Front slit detail at the hem. Zip fastening in the back hidden along the seam.”
Hate to break it to you Zara, but that’s a lungi. Shockingly (or not) you’re charging $89.9 (Rs 5,728) for a lungi. The LungiWala, an online retailer, is offering a very similar check lungi for Rs 357 ($5.6), a sizeable $84.3 cheaper than the Zara version. In other places, it would be available for much cheaper than that. We should know, we’ve seen our fair share of them: We even have a dance for it. (’Lungi dance’, anyone?)
Before we show you some men enjoying their lungi look, here’s what Twitter users are saying about Zara’s check mini skirt’s striking resemblance to lungi, the heat-appropriate staple for men in India.
